Great Cup Runs Ended

OUT BUT NOT DOWN!
Three LHC teams each made it to the last 16 of their respective national England Hockey Cup competitions, unfortunately they all went out in the same round. However, there is good news!
LHC is a relatively small East Midlands club with ambition and these results came in Boys under-14 competition, Men’s club competition and Masters over-40 competition – there can’t be many other teams that can say that, even from the big clubs that have ten or more teams and even hundreds of players to choose from. Well done to the 1st Team who put on an excellent display away at Nottingham Trent University (2 divisions higher and unbeaten in the league) but unfortunately lost 5-1. Well done to the u14s who had a long trip to Lancaster to take on Manx Hockey (like taking on a county team) in a rearranged fixture but lost out 7-2. Finally, well done to the Masters o40 team who went out in a penalty shoot-out against one of the biggest clubs in the Midlands after drawing 2-2 against Beeston.
Even though the competitions are “tiered” (a bit like the football competitions, so you don’t often get ties like Everton vs. Boreham Wood!); having Under14s, Mens and Over40s all progressing in their competitions, shows some quality and strength in depth. LHC Ladies start in competition next year as the Club continues to grow, the 1st Team aim for promotion and boys and girls junior provision is expanding.
